Being successful in sports comes down to inches
Sports and life come down to inches. The difference between those who make and those who don’t comes down to how well one approaches the small things that seem insignificant but make a big impact. Think of a pebble in a pond. One small pebble can create a long lasting ripple effect. Often times athletes look for one big thing they can do differently or maybe try to find the secret to success. There really is no secret. It comes down to the details, doing the small things over and over again that with time create long lasting positive results.
I find many times athletes see the big picture, see the end result they want but lose sight of what is right in front of them that they have control over that will help them get where they want to go, but because it is small in nature they think it won’t matter if I do it or not so most likely they don’t do it. So what are these small things you might be asking? Well things such as sleep, hydration, food, meditation, imagery, being conscious about how you walk, speak and approach each and every aspect of your performance. To be successful is not something that happens right away, it takes time, and it is not even being successful that is hard, it is getting there and staying successful that is most challenging. Those that can do it fall back on small things, the basics that they can rely on when things get rough that will help pull them back out and back on top. Think of the athletes who have maintained a high level of performance over a long period of time. They are known for their preparation and doing little things day in and day out that have allowed them to be at the top.
