Mental training is one of the most significant things an athlete can do to reach their optimal level of performance. However, many athletes will not follow through with the work that needs to be done. They will dabble in it for a bit and then give up, when things get tough or when they don’t see instant results. Mental training is for those who are committed to being their best, and understanding that mental training is something that needs to be done over the long haul. It is something that needs to be worked at each and every day.
Most of the mental training I do with clients centers around their every day life, and how that impacts their on field performance. To reach a high level it is about creating consistency and sticking with the things that will help you. When things go bad, most of the time it is because you have drifted from the techniques and skills that are necessary to be present and stay focused, to have confidence and perform under pressure. If you have all of a sudden started to have problems focusing or feel a lack of confidence it is about getting back to basics and making sure you are doing everything in your power to help yourself be in the right mental space.
Sometimes it is hard to keep a positive attitude and keep your motivation high, and when things get tough it is important to have strategies in place to help get you back to where you need to be. One of my favorite things is watching motivational videos. They remind me of the grind and how hard you have to push and keep pushing to reach your goals. So for this week I want to share this video that speaks to keep going even when the results aren’t showing.
