  • What is mental performance training?
Mental performance training focuses on training the mind to optimize performance in sports. It involves developing skills like focus, confidence, emotional regulation, and resilience, empowering athletes to perform consistently under pressure.
  • How is mental performance training different from traditional coaching?
While traditional coaching focuses on physical skills and tactics, mental performance training helps athletes master their mindset. It’s about building a strong mental foundation to complement their physical training and skills.
  • How does mental performance training improve athletic performance?
Just like physical training strengthens your body, mental training strengthens your ability to handle pressure, stay focused, and recover from setbacks. It helps athletes achieve consistent, confident performances by rewiring thought patterns and building mental skills.
  • What are some examples of things we might work on in coaching?
In coaching, we focus on things like: Developing a consistent pre-performance routine Managing nerves and arousal levels during competition Enhancing focus and attention Strengthening confidence through mental strategies Training for resilience after setbacks
  • Is your approach backed by science?
Yes, my coaching integrates evidence-based techniques from cognitive science, mindfulness, and peak performance research. These are practical, proven methods used by high-performing athletes.
  • Is this coaching only for team sports?
No. This program applies to all athletes, including those in individual sports like motocross, golf, track, and more.
  • What is the TAIS assessment, and why is it included?
The TAIS (The Attentional and Interpersonal Style) assessment helps us identify your unique strengths and areas for improvement in focus and interpersonal skills. It’s a cornerstone of our personalized coaching approach.
  • Do you only work with athletes?
No, we do not only work with athletes. The principles of mental performance training apply to various fields, including the military, business executives, lawyers, doctors, and sales professionals. If you're looking to enhance your performance and manage pressure and stress, our training can help you.
  • Do you specialize in a particular sport?
No, we do not specialize in just one sport. The principles of mental performance training apply across all sports because the underlying pressures to perform—whether it's staying focused, managing nerves, or building confidence—are universal. Our approach equips athletes from any sport to develop these skills and thrive both in competition and in life.
  • Can parents or coaches be involved in the process?
For younger athletes, we welcome involvement from parents to help support the work we are doing. The amount of involvement is catered to each client and what is best for them. Communication with coaches can also be arranged if it supports the athlete's progress.
  • When working with athletes do you just focus on their sports performance?
Not at all. We see the athlete as a whole person. While we develop the necessary skills for sport, we also focus on transferable skills for life. We help athletes perform at their highest potential in sport while using those experiences to develop lifelong skills such as focus, resilience, adaptability, and self-leadership. Sport becomes a powerful vehicle for personal growth and long-term success.
  • Do you diagnose mental health conditions?
No, we do not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. Our role is to help athletes train their minds to unlock their performance potential. If deeper psychological support is needed, we encourage working with a licensed mental health professional.
  • What payment methods do you accept?
We accept Zelle (preferred), check, and cash. Credit card payments and payment plans through Affirm are also available. For international clients, we use Wise for secure and convenient transactions.

  • How can mental performance coaching help me?
To understand how mental performance coaching can help, ask yourself: "Am I performing at my absolute best, with no room for improvement?" Most athletes will recognize a gap between their current performance and their full potential. Mental performance coaching focuses on closing that gap by helping you develop the mental skills, awareness, and strategies necessary to perform at your highest level. Whether it's enhancing focus, building confidence, managing stress, or overcoming performance anxiety, mental performance coaching equips you with the tools to unlock your full potential and elevate your game.
  • How long does it take to see results?
Mental performance training is a process. While some athletes notice changes in a few weeks, building a strong mental foundation takes consistent effort over several months. To keep results you must continually train your mind. Results are based on you and your commitment to the process of training your mind.
  • How Will This Benefit Me?
Mental skills training helps build the foundational tools needed to perform at a high level and handle life’s pressures more effectively. While many people focus solely on physical, technical, or tactical elements, they often overlook the power of the mind. By making simple adjustments to how you think, view challenges, or manage stress—such as improving focus, shifting perspective, or practicing breathing techniques—you can significantly change how you respond to situations. This directly impacts your approach and, ultimately, your performance both in sport and life.
  • Will this help me win more?
Our focus is on helping you unlock your potential and perform at your best. Success in sports isn’t guaranteed, but mastering your mindset gives you the tools to handle challenges, improve consistency, and grow as an athlete.
  • What results can I expect from the program?
While individual results vary, athletes typically report improved confidence, better focus during competition, and increased resilience in the face of challenges.
  • What Is the Value of This Investment?
The true value lies in becoming a more confident, focused, and self-assured person—both in sport and in life. Your mind is one of the most powerful tools you have. Left unchecked, it can limit your potential. But when you learn to take control of your thoughts and intentionally train your mind, you unlock the ability to approach challenges with purpose, respond rather than react, and perform at your highest level. This transformation, not just in how you perform but in how you navigate life’s challenges, is priceless.
  • Can I do this program if I have a busy schedule?
Absolutely! Our programs are designed with athletes' schedules in mind and are structured to be flexible. We meet each client where they’re at, ensuring that new strategies, tools, and practices can fit seamlessly into their routines. However, it's important to recognize that in order to see lasting results, you’ll need to carve out some time to work on your inner game. While we work around your schedule, dedicating time to make those changes is essential for success.
  • Are the sessions in-person or virtual?
Coaching sessions are available in person at our San Diego office or online via video, providing flexible options for those outside the area or seeking a more convenient way to fit sessions into their schedule. This ensures accessibility no matter where you're located.
  • What if I have to miss a session?
If you're enrolled in a 1-on-1 program, sessions can be rescheduled with adequate notice. Our cancellation and rescheduling policy will be shared with you at the start of the program.
  • Are Phone/Video Sessions as Effective as In-Person?
Absolutely. Phone and video sessions are just as effective, and for some individuals, even more impactful. They offer flexibility and a comfortable environment, allowing athletes to engage in coaching from a place where they feel at ease. The key is building a strong connection and delivering tailored coaching, which can be done seamlessly through virtual sessions.
  • Is mental performance coaching confidential?
Yes, I maintain confidentiality in our coaching relationship; however, it’s important to note that this is not the same as the legal confidentiality obligations of a licensed psychologist.

It typically includes: 45-60minute coaching sessions designed to help you train your mind for peak performance Customized mental strategies for improving confidence, focus, and resilience Tools to develop a pre-performance routine, manage pressure, and optimize recovery Practical exercises and tools tailored to your sport TAIS assessment Journal and workbooks to help support the work done in sessions and aid in the implementation of the tools and techniques.
  • How long does the coaching program last?
Our primary coaching offering is an 8-week program designed to build a strong foundation. After completing the initial program, we create a customized continuation plan tailored to each client's needs. For those seeking alternative options, we also offer a 3-hour intensive session and an in-depth performance profiling program.
  • How often are sessions scheduled?
The 8-week program includes weekly sessions, with built-in flexibility if a week needs to be skipped. After completing the program, we collaborate to determine the best ongoing schedule, continuously reevaluating to meet your needs. Options may include weekly, bi-weekly, every three weeks, or monthly sessions.
  • What can I expect from a coaching session?
Each session focuses on actionable strategies to strengthen your mental game. We'll review recent experiences, dive into specific topics or concerns, and build a key piece of your mental framework, helping you progress step by step.
  • How is your coaching different from mental therapy or counseling?
Coaching is focused on training the mind for peak performance, not addressing mental health issues. Our sessions are about building proactive skills and strategies to unlock your potential as an athlete.
  • How is mental performance coaching different from working with a sport psychologist?
Mental performance coaching focuses on training the mind to develop practical mental skills for consistent performance. It's about proactive strategies to help athletes optimize focus, build confidence, and handle pressure. A sport psychologist typically addresses mental health concerns, emotional challenges, and psychological issues that may impact performance.
  • Do I need a sport psychologist or a mental performance coach?
If you're struggling with mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, or trauma, a sport psychologist may be the best fit. If you're looking to improve performance, build mental toughness, and develop a stronger mindset for competition, a mental performance coach may be the best fit.
  • Can I work with both a sport psychologist and a mental performance coach?
Absolutely! Mental performance coaching complements therapy or psychological support. Many athletes benefit from both, addressing their mental health while building proactive mental skills.
