HOW CAN MENTAL PERFORMANCE COACHING HELP ME?
To help with understanding the role mental sports performance plays, it can be helpful to ask yourself this question: “Are you performing at your very best, and is there no room for improvement?” No one will ever answer this question affirmatively, most people will say there is a gap between how they are performing and how they are capable of performing. Mental performance training aims to create knowledge that will help close the gap between people’s current level of performance and what they are capable of doing. Ho
HOW DOES THIS DIFFER FROM PSYCHOTHERAPY?
The principles behind mental sports performance is about increasing performance through action based steps. Quantum Performance Inc does not diagnosis or treat any form of clinical or medical disorders. Training sessions are not a substitute for qualified medical and/or mental health care professionals. These issues sometimes come up and in these situations we refer our clients to appropriate psychologists or psychiatrists for expert treatment . We are here to help increase the mental skills necessary for high performance, using things such as goal setting, mental rehearsal, controlling emotions, improving focus/concentration, and dealing with energy management to implement strategies and techniques that can be put into place immediately to help and build from.

HOW LONG TILL I SEE RESULTS?
Everyone is different but if you are committed and put in the effort required for the changes to occur, usually within the first 6 to 8 sessions results will start to occur.
DO YOU JUST WORK WITH ATHLETES?
No we do not just work with athletes. The building blocks to perform under pressure are the same regardless of the situation. So whether you are in the military, business executive, lawyer, doctor or in sales, if you are looking to increase your level of performance and deal with the pressure and stress in your life than the principles of mental performance training can also help you.
WHEN WORKING WITH AN ATHLETE DO YOU JUST FOCUS ON THEIR SPORT PERFORMANCE?
No. We look at the athlete as a whole person and therefore not only work with and develop the necessary skills within their sport but also for life. You can not separate an athlete from their personal or work/school life, therefore all areas must be addressed to help an athlete perform up to their highest potential within their sport.
WHAT TYPES OF ATHLETES DO YOU WORK WITH?
We work with athletes of all ages and skill levels, with the skill level ranging from professional, Olympic and high school athletes to recreational athletes looking to get the most out of their time and improve their performance.
DO YOU SPECIALIZE IN A PARTICULAR SPORT?
No. We work with athletes from all different sports.
HOW FREQUENTLY WILL I NEED TO COME IN?
At the beginning once a week is required as a lot of basic skills need to be implemented, but usually after a couple months the frequency lessens based on the needs of the individual. Everyone is different and therefore we cater to the needs of the individual but once certain skill sets are in place then less frequency is needed.
WHAT ARE YOUR CREDENTIALS?
Kate Allgood, has a double Masters in psychology. One is in applied sport psychology with the other in general psychology with an emphasis on family psychology. She also is certified in the assessment TAIS. She is trained in Mindful Based Sport Performance Enhancement. She was a former elite athlete in ice hockey, winning numerous awards for both her athletic and academic performance. She was recognized as one of the top female athletes in all of Canada and was on the short list for the Canadian Women’s Olympic Team for 2010 before deciding to pursue the next chapter in her life.
She has personally experienced many of the same thoughts, feelings and emotions the athletes she works with are dealing with, and knows the struggle, determination and dedication needed to excel in the world of sports. Her personal experience and accolades as an athlete in combination with her education gives her a unique advantage to others in her position in helping others achieve their best.
It is important to note that while Kate has graduate school training in applied sport psychology and general psychology, she does not diagnose or treat clinical or medical disorders, and is not a licensed psychologist.
DO YOU HAVE TO BE LOCATED IN SAN DIEGO TO WORK WITH YOU?
No. We work with athletes from all over, and work with athletes either by phone/skype or in person. Even if you are located within San Diego, sometimes it is just more convenient to do a phone session.
ARE PHONE/VIDEO SESSIONS AS EFFECTIVE AS IN PERSON?
Yes. Phone/video sessions are just as effective and sometimes more effective depending on the person.
WHAT TYPE OF TECHNIQUES DO YOU USE?
A variety of techniques are used and are mainly based off of the client. There is a fair amount of talking, but exercises to help with focus, controlling emotion, mental rehearsal, goal setting, lowering stress levels are created and implement both within a session as well as for the client to do on a daily basis.
HOW MUCH DOES A SESSION COST?
We will provide pricing when requested via email or during an initial phone call, as each persons needs are different and therefore we need to understand the needs of the client first before giving a quote. We do not charge per session at the beginning as it takes more than a session or two to get results. We do start off all programs with an initial assessment which is $260, to make sure it is a good fit for both parties before proceeding forward.
HOW WILL THIS BENEFIT ME?
Mental skills training builds many of the necessary building blocks to achieve a high level of functioning, and to deal with the stress in ones life. People focus too much on the physical, technical or tactical elements of things, without realizing that by simply making a few adjustments in the way they think or view a situation, improving focus and concentrate or by simply taking a few deep breaths, they can significantly change their response to a situation and therefore how they approach it and ultimately how they perform.
HOW LONG WILL RESULTS LAST?
The great thing about training the mind is if you put in the effort and focus, the skills and tools you develop will last a life time! A teenager who learns to control their emotions, will have that skill for the rest of their life, and will play a major role in their ability to deal with the pressure and stress they face later down the road. Maybe learning to control their emotions as a teenager will allow that individual to be a more patient parent.
WHAT IS MY INVESTMENT WORTH?
Your investment is worth as much as you believe being a happier, more confident, more focused, and more self assured person is worth to you. The mind is so powerful and can change everything, if you let your mind control you you will live one type of life, but through the work we do it is about helping people to take back the control of their mind so that they can live a life that they want.
